The Speech-to-Print Approach
Using Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction (EBLI), we reduce cognitive load and focus on real, meaningful text so students read more easily and gain confidence.
EBLI tutoring with Charleston Literacy:
- eliminates the need to memorize rules
- promotes spelling
- removes restriction of single-skill mastery before progressing to a new skill
- exposes students to multisyllabic words sooner

About Charleston Literacy
Charleston Literacy is owned and operated by Kristen Sterna, MA, SLP. Kristen earned her Master’s degree in Communicative Disorders from Northern Illinois University (2012) and her Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2010). She is a Certified EBLI Instructor. She spent 8 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist in schools before transitioning to the role of literacy interventionist. After 13 years in public education (10 in South Carolina), Kristen started Charleston Literacy. Her expertise in language and literacy, combined with EBLI training, makes her uniquely qualified to provide effective reading remediation.

Scheduling and Investment
- 50 minute sessions
- $120 per session
- Once-weekly scheduling (intensive scheduling options available, 2x/week)
- In-home sessions throughout the Charleston area.
Serving West Ashley, Johns Island, Mount Pleasant, and Daniel Island.
Additional areas available upon inquiry.
- A formal dyslexia diagnosis is not required to begin intervention
